St. Louis photographer William Sawalich was drawn to photography at an early age. He made his first darkroom print at age 10 and went on to study photography and journalism at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, eventually earning a Master's Degree in photography from The Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Along with advertising, editorial and corporate photography, he is a prolific writer and contributing editor for three national photography publications—Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo and Digital Photo Pro magazines. An amateur filmmaker and creative writer, he co-created the short films A. Anonymous and Roy, has published short stories at McSweeney's Internet Tendency and Yankee Pot Roast, and is currently a writer for the internet television show Inside the Actor's Studio Apartment. For a full year he bought only American-made products and wrote about the experience at his Bye, American blog. He sometimes tweets, occasionally blogs, and every once in a while he publishes something designed to inspire other photographers. He teaches a studio photography course at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, and lives in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis with his wife, daughter and three poorly trained dogs.
